Motorhomes

Many people hate motorhomes on the roads. This is because they are large and difficult to see around or over, making overtaking difficult, especially down smaller country lanes. This unwieldy size combined with their workmanlike engine performance means they can slow down even the most casual driver if encountered on a single track road.

Of course motorhomes have as much right as any vehicle to be on the road providing their drivers have paid their road tax. The best advice if you are stuck behind one on a country lane is just to relax. Don't get wound up by your temporary delay, and don't start driving aggressively towards the motorhomes driver – you will only put yourself in danger, and chances are he won't be able to see you anyway. Your best bet is to just chill out, take some deep breaths and remember that it is inevitable that sooner rather than later the beast will turn off or you will reach a town or village, where you have to slow down anyway.

In actual fact, despite people's continued insistence that motorhomes slow them down, the truth is that if you're driving down country lanes you will only be delayed by 2-3 minutes total anyway. It's when you realise this fact that you also realise how pointless it would be risking your life, and the lives or others, overtaking down a narrow country lane. So next time you're in that position, stick it in a high gear to preserve your gas and relax.
